Walkthrough
Important: Elder Muahit is not in Kaskala proper. He’s on the island in Njord’s Breath Bay, south of the village. Don’t waste time searching the mainland.
Step 1: Travel to the Island
From Ataika, head southeast toward the water. Your destination is the medium-sized island in the center of Njord’s Breath Bay at [67, 54].
Getting There:
If you have trouble, dismount while in the water and swim up.
Step 2: Find Muahit
Elder Muahit stands in the center of the island near the altar to Tayutka. He’s next to Hotawa, another tuskarr NPC. Speak with him to complete the quest.
Story Context: A Stubborn Shaman’s Faith
Ataika (quest text): “Listen, <name>. Warriors like me are replaceable. If I fall, my brothers and cousins will pick up my spear and fight.”
“My people cannot survive without wise elders. Stubborn Muahit, our most venerable shaman, refuses to leave the altar to Tayutka in the central island.”
“We would suffer a significant loss if he was slain by these monsters. You are an outsider, maybe he’ll listen to you. Show him reason… ask him to flee to the safety of Unu’pe before it’s too late.”
Elder Muahit (completion): “Ataika sent you, didn’t he? I am not to be swayed. All is not lost. The spirits are still with us.”
Ataika views himself and his warriors as expendable. Yet Muahit refuses to flee. He believes the tuskarr spirits will intervene if properly invoked. His stubbornness turns out to be justified: in the follow-up quests, his faith in the spirits actually saves Kaskala.
Lore: The Tuskarr Pantheon
Elder Muahit’s refusal to leave the altar reflects his faith in three tuskarr spirits:
Tayutka: A protective spirit who guided the tuskarr ancestors to Kaskala. She ensures survivors have food and shelter. The altar Muahit guards is dedicated to her.
Issliruk: The spirit of war, depicted as a silver eagle. Stories say he fought a hundred worgs to save his young. He gives the tuskarr courage in battle. In the follow-up quest, Muahit summons Issliruk’s spirit to create a snowstorm that turns the tide against the Kvaldir.
Karkut: “He Who Watches Over the Dead.” Karkut guides fallen tuskarr to the afterlife so they don’t lose their way (as referenced in the daily quest Preparing for the Worst).
Muahit believes that with Issliruk giving courage, Tayutka providing for survivors, and Karkut watching over the fallen, the tuskarr can endure even this crisis.
Location Note: Njord’s Breath Bay
Njord’s Breath Bay is named after Njord, the Norse god of the sea and storms. The bay separates Kaskala from its sacred island altar. Despite the Kvaldir invasion, Muahit remains at the altar, trusting in the spirits’ protection.
Easter Egg: Dune Reference?
Muahit may be a reference to Paul Atreides’ title “Muad’Dib” from Frank Herbert’s Dune. Both are figures of spiritual strength within their respective cultures.

An altar stood on that island, and even from here, I could see the offerings arranged around it, the smoke of incense rising despite the chaos.
“Stubborn Muahit, our most venerable shaman, refuses to leave the altar to Tayutka. We would suffer a significant loss if he was slain by these monsters.” Ataika’s jaw tightened. “You are an outsider. Maybe he’ll listen to you. Show him reason. Ask him to flee to the safety of Unu’pe before it’s too late.”
I waded to the island.
Elder Muahit knelt before the altar, hands moving through patterns I didn’t recognize. The Kvaldir hadn’t reached this far yet, but their mist curled at the water’s edge.
“Ataika sent you, didn’t he?”
“He did.”
“I am not to be swayed.” Muahit’s voice was calm. Certain. “All is not lost. The spirits are still with us.”
I’d seen faith like that before. But it wasn’t my place to argue with a shaman about his spirits.
Muahit would not leave, saying the spirits were still with them, and the one he wanted called on was Issliruk, who once fought a hundred worgs alone and might yet make it true that Spirits Watch Over Us.
