Karuk’s Oath

Quest 2 of 3 in the Riplash Strand Chain
Both Factions • Borean Tundra • Level 71 • Riplash Strand
Kill 6 Skadir Raiders and 5 Skadir Longboatsmen in the mist along Riplash Strand.
Head south from Karuk into the misty area around (46, 75). Both mob types are near the shipwrecks and beached longboats. Important: If you pull a mob and leave the mist, it resets to full health. Stay inside the foggy zone while fighting. Level 68-69, straightforward kills. If spawns are scarce, walk southeast toward the Shrine of Scales area for more. Karuk is a young tuskarr fisherman who can't fight them himself, so you're carrying his blood oath.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
Karuk's village was gone. His father was dead. Tuskarr law demanded blood, but the boy was a fisherman who hadn't passed his test of manhood. He asked Vikstone to carry his oath. Vikstone understood that weight.

“They call themselves the Kvaldir. My people have legends about them; we call them the tuk-hariq – walkers of the fog. My village was destroyed by these giant mist-men. Everyone I knew was slain, including my father Ariut. By tuskarr law I must seek retribution against those who shed my kin’s blood. I am but a fisherman and I’ve not yet passed the test of manhood… I cannot stand toe-to-toe with the vile Kvaldir.

If you were to carry out my blood duty for me, I will be in great debt to you.”

Walkthrough

Step 1: Locate Targets

From Karuk, head directly south into Riplash Strand. The Skadir Raiders and Skadir Longboatsmen are found around the shipwrecks and beach area at approximately [46, 75].

Step 2: Kill in the Mist

IMPORTANT: The Skadir patrol within a misty area. If you pull a mob and then leave the mist, it will reset and return to full health. Stay inside the foggy zone while fighting.

Step 3: Return to Karuk

Once you’ve killed 6 Raiders and 5 Longboatsmen, return to Karuk to complete the quest.

Tips and Strategies

Competition: During high-traffic periods (server launches, peak hours), respawn rates can feel slow with many players competing. If struggling to find mobs:

  • Walk toward the Shrine of Scales area (southeast) where additional Skadir spawn
  • Return during off-peak hours
  • Both mob types count toward the same questline, so kill whichever you find

Combat Notes:

  • The Skadir are level 68-69 humanoids
  • Straightforward fights for on-level players
  • Watch for accidental multi-pulls near the shipwrecks

Story Context

Karuk (quest text): “They call themselves the Kvaldir. My people have legends about them; we call them the tuk-hariq – walkers of the fog.”

“My village was destroyed by these giant mist-men. Everyone I knew was slain, including my father Ariut.”

“By tuskarr law I must seek retribution against those who shed my kin’s blood.”

“I am but a fisherman and I’ve not yet passed the test of manhood… I cannot stand toe-to-toe with the vile Kvaldir.”

“If you were to carry out my blood duty for me, I will be in great debt to you.”

Progress: “Did you succeed, <race>? The Kvaldir are cruel warriors. Do not expect any quarter from them.”

Completion: “You’ve done my people a great favor, <name>. I must ask one more thing of you, however.”

Karuk is bound by tuskarr law to avenge his father’s murder, but he’s young, a fisherman who hasn’t completed his people’s rites of adulthood. He can’t fight the Kvaldir himself, so he asks you to fulfill his blood duty on his behalf.

Even after you help, he warns there’s more to be done: the Skadir’s leader, Gamel the Cruel, still lives.

Lore: The Skadir Clan

The Skadir are a kvaldir clan operating from Riplash Strand. Led by Gamel the Cruel, they brought their longships ashore at the Riplash Ruins, wiped out the naga who previously inhabited the area (leaving only the priestess Veehja), and now use the ruins as a staging ground for raids across Borean Tundra.

Their arrival wasn’t random. Pirates called the Northsea Freebooters looted vrykul burial artifacts from Shield Hill in Howling Fjord, disturbing the spirits of the dead. The kvaldir emerged in response, and the Skadir clan’s campaign of destruction has been devastating for coastal settlements like Karuk’s village and the tuskarr of Kaskala.

Strategic Threat: According to Alliance intelligence, if the Skadir aren’t stopped at Riplash, Valiance Keep would be their next target.

Chain Overview: Karuk’s Questline

  1. A Diplomatic Mission (Alliance) / Seek Out Karuk! (Horde) – Breadcrumb to find Karuk
  2. Karuk’s Oath – Kill Skadir to avenge Karuk’s village
  3. Gamel the Cruel – Kill the Skadir leader

After completing Gamel the Cruel, A Father’s Words continues the storyline, sending you to the sole naga survivor Veehja at the Shrine of Scales.

Warrior IconVikstone's War Journal

Karuk told me about Pal’ea.

Vikstone Portrait Act 1
Illustrated by Christian DiBari and Simon Gough.

“They call themselves the Kvaldir. My people have legends about them. We call them the tuk-hariq.” He was young. Younger than I’d expected. The harpoon at his side looked like it had only ever been used on fish. “Walkers of the fog.”

A fishing village full of families, children learning to mend nets and read the tides. All of it gone in a single night of mist and slaughter.

“My village was destroyed by these giant mist-men. Everyone I knew was slain, including my father Ariut.” He met my eyes. “By tuskarr law I must seek retribution against those who shed my kin’s blood. But I am a fisherman. I’ve not yet passed the test of manhood. I cannot stand toe-to-toe with the vile Kvaldir.”

He was asking me to carry his blood duty, to kill in his name because he couldn’t.

The Skadir had made camp along the strand, their longboats pulled up on the ice like beached whales. Raiders and Longboatsmen both, barnacle-crusted and in ways that made the eyes slide off them.

The raiders came fast and reckless, and the Longboatsmen hit hard, but slow enough to read. When it was done, their bodies dissolved into mist and seaweed.

“You’ve done my people a great favor,” Karuk said. “I must ask one more thing of you, however.”

Karuk’s blood oath is not finished until somebody deals with Gamel the Cruel.
