“That’ll do her, chief! So, here’s what I want ya to do….
Take my blaster and head north to Magmoth. If we’re gonna have a chance at all against those monsters, we need to cut them down to size… so to speak.
In order to gauge its effectiveness, I need you to slay the magnataur while the blaster’s effects are still on it. Any of the crushers or mates will do, but don’t bother with the offspring… they’re too small to worry about.”

Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Head north from Fizzcrank Airstrip to Magmoth. The target magnataur patrol the hills and access ways around the main cave system.
Target Locations:
Recommended Approach: Focus on Crushers in the hills just north of the airstrip. They’re more accessible than the Mates, and you avoid fighting through snobold camps and their annoying totems.
Using the Blaster (Critical Instructions)
The Shortening Blaster is a gnomish prototype, meaning it doesn’t always work as intended. Follow these steps carefully:
Pet Class Warning: Dismiss pets before engaging. They may kill the target before the blaster effect applies.
Blaster Effects (All Cosmetic)
The blaster produces random effects on both you and your target. All effects are purely visual and don’t affect combat:
The “Yellow” effect spell ID is 45678, which appears to be an intentional sequential numbering joke by the developers.
Important: Despite shrinking visually, the magnataur retain full combat stats. The shrinking is cosmetic only.
Combat Notes
Magmoth Crushers are level 70 magnataur with two notable abilities:
Be aware of nearby snobolds and their totems. Knockbacks can push you into additional enemies.
Lore: A “Creative Solution” Fails
Crafty’s completion dialogue reveals the unfortunate truth: “Whadya mean it didn’t work?! But… but… <Crafty begins to sob.> Okay, we can deal with this. I’m a big girl. Time to think outside the box!”
Despite all the work gathering materials in the previous quest, the Shortening Blaster is a failure as a military weapon. While it produces amusing cosmetic effects, it doesn’t actually reduce the magnataur’s combat effectiveness. Shrinking a 20-foot mammoth-centaur to the size of a gnome doesn’t help if it can still hit just as hard.
This sets up the follow-up quest, Plan B, where Crafty pivots to a completely different approach: disguising the player as a Warsong orc to redirect the magnataur’s aggression toward the Horde instead.
Horde Equivalent: Revenge Upon Magmoth
The Horde quest Revenge Upon Magmoth from Ortrosh at Bor’gorok Outpost takes a much more direct approach to the magnataur problem. Instead of gnomish shrink rays, Horde players simply kill 10 Magmoth Shamans, 5 Magmoth Foragers, 3 Magmoth Crushers, and 3 Mates of Magmothregar.

Vikstone's War JournalCrafty pressed a contraption into my hands. The Ultra-Advanced Proto-Typical Shortening Blaster. It looked like something that might explode.

“If we’re gonna have a chance at all against those monsters, we need to cut them down to size. So to speak.” She grinned. “Slay them while the blaster’s effects are still on. Any of the crushers or mates will do, but don’t bother with the offspring. They’re too small to worry about.”
I headed to Magmoth, found a Crusher, took aim. Fired.
The blaster hummed, sparkled, and made a noise like a dying cat.
The magnataur didn’t shrink.
It did, however, notice me.
Five magnataur later, I returned to Crafty and reported the results.
“Whadya mean it didn’t work?!” Her face crumpled. “But… but…”
She began to sob.
I waited. What else could I do?
Finally, she sniffed, straightened, and wiped her eyes. “Okay. We can deal with this. I’m a big girl. Time to think outside the box!”
The blaster hadn’t shrunk a single magnataur. I’d killed five of them anyway, the old-fashioned way, while carrying a useless device that made dying cat noises.
The war effort, everyone.
The shrinking blaster was a bust, and Crafty wiped her eyes and moved on to Plan B, which involved dressing Vikstone as an orc.
