“There’s trouble at the altar of the snake god. The presence of the Scourge has weakened the land, Night Elf. This in turn has weakened the wild gods. We know that the Drakkari are taking advantage of this to do evil things to the gods. I need you to be my eyes and ears. The Altar of Sseratus is at the end of the avenue to the north. Sneak around the back and get a look inside of the main altar building.
Whatever you do, avoid the prophet at all costs!”

Lore Context
Sseratus was the serpent loa of the Drakkari Empire. When the Scourge invaded Zul’Drak, the Drakkari made a desperate and blasphemous choice: rather than pray to their gods for protection, they murdered them and drank their mojo to steal divine power. Sseratus was one of the first victims.
His High Prophet, Slad’ran, absorbed enough of Sseratus’s power to become half-serpent and retreated to Gundrak, where he serves as the dungeon’s first boss. The achievement for his encounter is called “Snakes. Why’d It Have To Be Snakes?” (an Indiana Jones reference).
This quest is your first direct look at the Drakkari loa sacrifice, the central tragedy of Zul’Drak. From here, the chain eventually leads through all the remaining loa: Rhunok (who begs for a mercy killing), Mam’toth (who committed suicide to deny the trolls his power), Quetz’lun (who created her own nightmare realm to torture her betrayers), and Akali (whose prophet became Gundrak’s final boss).

Vikstone's War Journal“I need you to be my eyes and ears,” Ubungo said. “Whatever you do, avoid the prophet at all costs.”

The avenue north wound through crumbling ziggurats before opening onto the Altar of Sseratus. I slipped into shadowmeld at the edge of the complex, letting the darkness fold around me like old familiar cloth.
The main altar building squatted at the avenue’s end, serpent motifs carved into every surface. I crept around the back, found a vantage point, and looked inside.
The prophet stood at the center, draped in ceremonial robes that seemed to move of their own accord. Around him, Drakkari chanters raised their voices.
Then I understood what I was seeing. It was not a ritual of worship. A feeding.
Sseratus wasn’t being weakened. Sseratus was already dead.
When I returned, Ubungo’s hands went still on his staff. “Dead?” His voice dropped to barely a whisper. “They’ve killed Sseratus and drunk deeply of his mojo. The prophet especially. We must put an end to him before he drinks too much more.”
A dead god on his own altar, and his killers wearing his power. Zul’Drak’s horrors are multiplying faster than the Argent Crusade can map them, and the patrol routes need securing in Pa’Troll.
