Stormherald Eljrrin

This quest does NOT exist in WotLK Classic. It was added in Patch 4.3.0 (November 29, 2011) during the Cataclysm expansion, when Blizzard restructured dungeon quests to place quest givers inside instances rather than out in the world. In WotLK Classic, the equivalent quest is Whatever it Takes!, which King Jokkum gives directly after The Reckoning. That quest sends you straight to kill Loken and return with his tongue. Quest Giver: King Jokkum — Dun Niffelem, Storm Peaks [65.4, 60.2]

Objective: Enter the Halls of Lightning and speak with Stormherald Eljrrin.

Walkthrough

Accept the quest from King Jokkum at Dun Niffelem and travel to the Halls of Lightning entrance in the Ulduar complex. The dungeon entrance is at approximately [45.4, 21.4] in Storm Peaks, on the eastern side of the Ulduar exterior. Ascend two flights of stairs to reach the instance portal (the second staircase is offset at an angle from the first, which catches people off guard).

Inside the dungeon, Stormherald Eljrrin is a frost giant standing just inside the entrance. Speak to him to complete the quest. He greets you with: “My people will stand idle no longer. The halls of Ulduar shall be cleansed!”

Eljrrin then offers the dungeon quests that were originally given by King Jokkum in the WotLK version, including Whatever it Takes! (kill Loken), Clearing the Way (kill General Bjarngrim and his forces), and Diametrically Opposed.

Why This Quest Exists

During Cataclysm, Blizzard moved many dungeon quest givers from the open world into the dungeon instances themselves, making quests easier to pick up through the Dungeon Finder tool. Stormherald Eljrrin was created as the in-dungeon quest hub for Halls of Lightning, consolidating quests that players would otherwise need to track down in the Storm Peaks overworld.

The NPC is a Sons of Hodir frost giant, which makes sense narratively: King Jokkum swore vengeance after The Reckoning, and Eljrrin represents the frost giants finally taking direct action against Loken’s stronghold.
