Vikstone's War JournalThe Refined Gleaming Ore was not like any metal I have handled. Hard without being brittle, lighter in the hand, and it held its glow after it had gone cold. Looking into it I could make out one of Thorim’s runes down beneath the surface, still lit.

Which meant it had been inside an iron giant at Fjorn’s Anvil, and that it had gotten there because someone left it lying about long enough for Loken’s smiths to find it.
That took me most of the climb to work through. He killed the man’s wife. He turned him against Arngrim and cost him his allies. He took Ulduar. And then he went to Thorim’s own forges for the metal to build the things currently besieging the frost giants.
“What do you have there, little one?” Thorim said.
I put it in his hand.
He turned it over twice and then closed his fist around it. Whatever he intends to do to his brother was settled somewhere inside those two turns of the wrist.
A spark of hope.
The ore carried Thorim’s own rune, which meant his brother’s giants had been forging weapons out of the Stormlord’s work, and the frost giants he needed to reach were down in Dun Niffelem behind a king nobody could mistake, because You Can’t Miss Him.
