Lore Context
Lorekeeper Randvir is the Sons of Hodir’s keeper of prophecy and tradition. He claims to have received a vision from Hodir himself, revealing the blueprint for a sacred weapon. The everfrost shards (the same magically compressed, never-melting ice that Calder prizes for Everfrost Chips) form the spear’s core, while the mammoth hides provide its wrapping.
The result is Hodir’s Spear, a monument so imposing that its mere presence compels anyone nearby to test their prowess in battle, which is the in-universe setup for the daily quest it unlocks.
Rename Note: This quest was originally called “Raising Hodir’s Spear” and was renamed to “Forging Hodir’s Spear” in Patch 9.1.5 (November 2, 2021). Its follow-up daily, “Thrusting Hodir’s Spear,” was renamed to How To Slay Your Dragon in the same pass. The buff text “See Hodir’s Spear” survived the rename, preserving one layer of the original wordplay.

We must obey. A god dead sent word and the lorekeeper took it as an order.
Recently, Calder held a chip of everfrost up to the light and told me it was the heart of his people and nearly all gone, and asked me to bring him any I came across.
Randvir wanted three shards out of the crater deep in Hibernal Cavern. That crater is where Jorcuttar came up through the floor at me. I went back down and cut them out of the wall, and carried them past Calder’s door on the way to Randvir’s.
I have not worked out whether either of them knows what the other has asked of me, or whether knowing would change anything.
The stoic mammoths outside the cavern surrendered three hides after some discussion.
“Stand back, night elf, and behold the fulfilling of a prophecy!”
What he made out of the ice and the hide threw its own light, and standing four paces off I could see my own breath. It is a good spear. Whether Hodir sent for it or Randvir dreamed it, they have one now.
The spear went up where the whole camp could see it, and a weapon that size is not built to stand in a courtyard, so the frost giants had a target in mind and a lesson to go with it in How To Slay Your Dragon.
