Collect 5 Sandfern fronds from the shores around Sholazar Basin.

Debaar at Nesingwary Base Camp [27, 60] needs 5 Sandfern for crocolisk camouflage. Best spot: River's Heart shoreline [47, 61]. Backup: Bittertide Lake beach [38, 41], which puts you next to Dreadsaber Tracks for Stalking the Prey. Sandferns look like ordinary bushes with a faint sparkle. Find Herbs tracking does not detect them. No combat required.

Vikstone's Classic Expedition

Debaar needed ferns to build crocolisk camouflage, and Vikstone spent an afternoon picking plants along riverbanks while wearing full plate armor. The draenei started strapping fronds to his pauldrons before he could object, which was probably for the best.

“The mangal crocolisk is a master of the ambush, and I intend to beat the best at his game. To do that, we’ll need to construct a convincing camouflage for you. We’ll use plants that grow in the sandy soil of the riverbanks and lake beaches. The sandfern is best for this purpose.

It grows in the sandy areas near the shores of the Seabreach Flow, just to the south, Bittertide Lake and Bittertide Falls, to the north, and the edges of River’s Heart, the large lake beyond the mangal to the east.”

Objective: Gather 5 Sandferns.
Quest Giver: Hemet Nesingwary, Nesingwary Base Camp (27.1, 58.7).
Target Location: Sandferns are scattered along the River's Heart lake shores and nearby rivers.
Best Gathering Spots:
River's Heart: The shoreline at 47, 61 is rich in Sandferns. Circle the lake to find them.
South of Nesingwary Camp: Another cluster of Sandferns can be found along the beaches at 38, 41.
Fly Slowly or Walk: Sandferns blend into the environment, and their sparkles can be faint. Moving too fast might cause you to miss them. — **Quest Giver:** Hemet Nesingwary, Nesingwary Base Camp (27.1, 58.7).

**River’s Heart:** The shoreline at 47, 61 is rich in Sandferns. Circle the lake to find them.

Walkthrough

Sandfern grows in sandy soil along riverbanks and lake shores throughout the basin. Per the quest text, look near the shores of the Seabreach Flow (south of camp), Bittertide Lake and Bittertide Falls (north), and River’s Heart (east).
Best spot: The shoreline around River’s Heart [47, 61] has the densest cluster. You can collect all 5 quickly by circling the lake’s edge.
Backup spot: The beach near Bittertide Lake around [38, 41] also has a reliable cluster, and puts you right next to the Dreadsaber Tracks for Stalking the Prey.

Gathering Tips

Sandferns look like ordinary bushes and emit only a faint sparkle. They blend in easily with surrounding foliage, so move slowly and watch for the interaction cursor.
Herbalists: The “Find Herbs” tracking ability does not detect Sandferns. Manual searching only.
If using a flying mount, fly low and slow along the shoreline, or use a ground mount to avoid overshooting them.
No combat is required for this quest, but mobs along the river may aggro if you’re on foot.

Gathering plants. The great war against the Lich King, and I was gathering plants.

Found the sandfern along the riverbanks easily enough. Hardy things, growing where sand met water. Pulled five good fronds and returned to camp.

Debaar took them and immediately started bending them around my armor, without asking for permission.

“Yes, this should work. Stand still! We’ll make a bush of you yet.”
