In Worg’s Clothing

Quest 2 of 5 in the Ulfang Chain
Alliance • Howling Fjord • Level 71 • Rivenwood
Use the Worg Disguise to walk through Rivenwood and speak with Ulfang in his cave.
Watcher Moonleaf at Steel Gate [30, 28.6]. Activate the Worg Disguise before entering Rivenwood. Worgs will ignore you while disguised. Ulfang's cave is on the snowy northwestern edge of the forest at [29.5, 5.8]. You need to stand very close to Ulfang (near his paws) for the turn-in to work. If you see a grey question mark, adjust your position until it turns yellow. Keep the Worg Disguise after the quest. It provides a movement speed boost on a short cooldown, useful for short runs throughout the zone where mounting isn't worth it.
Vikstone's Classic Expedition
Vikstone walked among the worgs wearing a shape that was not his, and they passed him by with only curious glances. Ulfang watched from the back of his cave with yellow eyes that saw through the disguise immediately.

“From my dreams, I know that Ulfang is in a cave on the snowy northwestern edge of the Rivenwood. He is in great danger! I have devised a magical disguise that will make you appear as a worg while you are within the Rivenwood. The disguise is weak, relying upon the strange magics of that haunted wood. While it will only convince the worgs, it will allow you to get close to Ulfang.

Please, Warrior, find and help him.”

Walkthrough

Quest Giver: Watcher Moonleaf — Steel Gate, Howling Fjord [30, 28.6]

Objective: Use the Worg Disguise to approach and speak with Ulfang in his cave.

Quick Facts

Walkthrough

Use the Disguise

  • Put the Worg Disguise on your action bar and activate it before entering Rivenwood. It transforms you into a worg, and the local worgs will ignore you. The disguise only works within the Rivenwood area.

Find Ulfang’s Cave

  • Head north from Steel Gate through Rivenwood. Ulfang’s cave is on the snowy northwestern edge of the forest at [29.5, 5.8]. The cave entrance is guarded by two stationary worgs (harmless while you’re disguised).
  • Alternate route: If you want to avoid the spiders and other mobs in Rivenwood, take the road north out of the zone into Grizzly Hills. Stop around [34, 76] in Grizzly Hills coordinates, look east, and you’ll see the cave entrance in the snow. Put on the disguise before heading over.

Talk to Ulfang

  • Click on Ulfang inside the cave to turn in the quest. He says: “You look and smell different… you are not one of my pack. Tell me your story; I have nothing but time while I am trapped in here.”
  • Targeting tip: You need to be very close to Ulfang (near his paws) to interact with him. Look for the yellow question mark. If you see a grey question mark, you’re close but not in the right spot yet. Adjust your position.

Efficiency Tips

  • Keep the Worg Disguise. After completing this quest, the disguise stays in your inventory. It provides a movement speed boost on a short cooldown, making it useful for short runs between quests throughout the zone where mounting isn’t worthwhile.
  • Pet classes: Your pet stays safe while you’re disguised. Worgs will not attack your companion, so there’s no need to dismiss it.
  • If you lose the disguise, return to Watcher Moonleaf for a replacement. The game doesn’t give you a notification when the replacement is added; it just appears in your bags.

Lore Context

  • The quest name is a play on Aesop’s fable “The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing,” cleverly inverted: instead of a wolf pretending to be a sheep, you’re a person pretending to be a worg.
  • Moonleaf has been receiving dreams from Ulfang, who is trapped in his cave and needs help. Ulfang is not hostile like the other Rivenwood worgs. He and his pack are being manipulated by a dominant Alpha Worg, and the rest of the chain deals with uncovering and confronting that threat.

Moonleaf held out a talisman.

“I have devised a magical disguise that will make you appear as a worg while you are within the Rivenwood. The disguise is weak, relying upon the strange magics of that haunted wood. While it will only convince the worgs, it will allow you to get close to Ulfang. Please, find and help him.”

Dark trees twisted overhead in the Rivenwood, and the air carried the smell of predators. I activated the disguise at the forest’s edge.

The sensation was unsettling. My body remained unchanged, but something in how the world perceived me shifted. Worgs that would have attacked passed me by with only curious glances. I walked among them on four legs I did not have, using a shape that was not mine.

Ulfang’s cave sat at the snowy base of the mountain. The great worg watched me enter, yellow eyes sharp despite whatever trapped him here. “You look and smell different… you are not one of my pack.”

He settled onto his haunches, patient.

“Tell me your story; I have nothing but time while I am trapped in here.”

Ulfang explained what had become of his pack, that his own Brother Betrayers had turned on him and the Alpha held the rest in thrall, and the brothers would have to go first.
