Walkthrough

• The Scourge Device drops from Scourge mobs along the Chillmere Coast, including Chillmere Coastrunners and other undead in the area (Mur’ghoul Corrupters, Mur’ghoul Flesheaters, Servitor Shades, Necrotechs). You’ll almost certainly get it while working on And You Thought Murlocs Smelled Bad!
• Once it drops, use the item or check your quest log. The quest asks you to bring it to Explorer Jaren, who’s right there behind his tree at [24, 32].
• Jaren identifies it as a controlling device for the scourging crystals dotting the coast. He realizes it can be used to shut down their force fields, which sets up the follow-up quest Bring Down Those Shields.

Efficiency Tips

• This is a zero-travel quest if you pick it up while doing And You Thought Murlocs Smelled Bad! The drop and the turn-in NPC are both right where you’re already killing. Just click the item when it drops and walk back to Jaren.
• Don’t leave the coast without turning this in. Bring Down Those Shields sends you right back out to the same beach to disable the scourging crystals, so you want to chain these together.
