Malister is Captain Adams’ advisor and stands just a few feet away in the keep’s command room. No travel required.
Story Context
Captain Adams is furious. Your efforts at Ember Clutch have backfired:
“THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! Those proto-drakes are attacking the keep! Beasts such as that should have been scared off when you took care of their clutches and whelps. You did take care of them, right?”
Rather than driving the proto-drakes away, destroying their eggs and young has provoked them into direct retaliation against Westguard. Adams wants “more direct action” and sends you to his advisor for the means to fight back.
Malister offers a very different perspective. He beckons you closer and speaks in whispered tones:
“I was worried that something like this might happen. I tried to dissuade the captain from this course of action, but he is a dwarf of action with a definite outlook on how things should proceed. Let us speak of the options left to us.”
The tension between Adams’ aggressive pragmatism and Malister’s cautious reluctance sets up the moral dimension of the follow-up quest. Malister saw this coming but couldn’t stop it. Now he’s left to clean up the mess.

Captain Adams was not taking the news well. Proto-drakes flew above Westguard Keep, their shadows passing over the courtyard.
“Those proto-drakes are attacking the keep! Beasts such as that should have been scared off when you took care of their clutches and whelps.” He fixed me with a hard stare. “You did take care of them, right?”
I confirmed. Every egg and every whelp.
“This calls for more direct action. Speak with my advisor, Mage-Lieutenant Malister. He’ll provide you with the means to get at those infernal creatures.”
I found Malister in the command room. He beckoned me closer, glancing toward the door as if ensuring Adams couldn’t hear.
“I was worried that something like this might happen. I tried to dissuade the captain from this course of action, but he is a dwarf of action with a definite outlook on how things should proceed. Let us speak of the options left to us.”
Malister handed over a frost wand that would bring the drakes down, thinking Two Wrongs… while the attack was already underway.
