Lore Context
Pay attention to Ivan’s completion dialogue. He starts to say the item’s name before catching himself: “You recovered the Sc… you recovered the chest.” This was widely interpreted by the community as a reference to the Scythe of Elune, a powerful artifact tied to worgen origins. Given that Ivan and the trappers are later revealed to be members of the Wolfcult, the implication was that the Alliance unknowingly delivered a dangerous artifact to worgen sympathizers.
However, later canon (the Dark Riders and Curse of the Worgen comics) established the Scythe’s complete history in a way that makes it impossible for it to have been in Grizzly Hills. This plot thread was effectively dropped by Blizzard. It remains an interesting “what if” from WotLK’s original development.
The Aspen Grove Trader at this camp sells trash items that hint at the trappers’ true worgen nature, a subtle clue for observant players before the Silverbrook reveal.

Vikstone's War Journal“We have what the trappers want.” Dumont handed me the cedar chest. “Now it’s up to us to sign them up with our side. Take the chest to a trapper named Ivan at the Aspen Grove Post, just north of here. If all goes well, we’ll have local woodsmen serving as scouts for the king’s army in no time.”
Scouts. In exchange for a locked box that rattled when shaken.

Aspen Grove Post was a small clearing in the pines, a handful of trappers gathered around a central fire. Ivan stood apart from the others, watching the tree line with the patience of a hunter.
His eyes fixed on the chest the moment I approached.
“You did it! You recovered the Sc…” He caught himself, the word dying in his throat. “…you recovered the chest that the Horde stole from us. We thank you, Vikstone.”
The Sc—what?
His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. The other trappers had gone still, watching me with expressions I couldn’t read.
I handed over the chest. Ivan clutched it to his chest, something he’d been waiting for.
“The Alliance has our support,” he said. “You have my word.”
His word. For a box he’d almost named.
The pines swayed overhead, indifferent to whatever bargain I’d just sealed.
Ivan clutched the chest like something precious, his almost-spoken secret still hanging in the air. The alliance with the trappers moves forward in A Tentative Pact.
