Walkthrough

Obtaining the Ruby Brooch

• This quest does not drop from random mobs. The Ruby Brooch drops from Dahlia Suntouch, the corrupted keeper of the Ruby Dragonshrine. You kill her as part of the quest Through Fields of Flame, which tasks you with eliminating the source of corruption beneath the shrine.
• Dahlia is found in a cave beneath the giant tree at the center of the Ruby Dragonshrine [55, 65]. She has been raised as a banshee by the Scourge.
• After killing her, the Remnant of Dahlia Suntouch spawns and delivers a scripted farewell, explaining that she was slain by the death knight Orbaz Bloodbane and raised against her will. She drops the Ruby Brooch, which auto-starts this quest.

Delivering the Brooch to Krasus

• Travel to Wyrmrest Temple [59, 54].
• Speak to Tariolstrasz at the western entrance on the ground floor.
• Select: “Steward, please allow me to ride one of the drakes to the queen’s chamber at the top of the temple.”
• A drake will fly you to the top floor. Turn in the quest to Krasus there.

Efficiency Tips

• You will always obtain this quest naturally while completing Through Fields of Flame. There is no need to farm for it separately.
• After turning in at the top of Wyrmrest Temple, several new quests become available from Krasus and Alexstrasza. Pick them all up before heading back down.
• Tariolstrasz also offers a ride to the middle level (“Can you spare a drake to take me to Lord Afrasastrasz?”), which has additional quest NPCs. Consider visiting both floors while you’re here.

Lore Context

Krasus is the high elf disguise of Korialstrasz, prime consort of Alexstrasza. He is one of the most powerful red dragons alive, and the Ruby Brooch is his personal artifact entrusted to Dahlia as keeper of the shrine.

Dahlia Suntouch was a high elf who served Alexstrasza as the Ruby Dragonshrine’s guardian for centuries. Her corruption by the Scourge demonstrates how aggressively the Lich King is attacking even the most sacred dragonflight territories.

Interestingly, Dahlia’s dialogue references being killed by “Bloodbane” (Orbaz Bloodbane), who was the original attacker during the WotLK beta. For the release, he was replaced by Duke Vallenhal, but her scripted lines were never updated.

Korialstrasz’s Fate

• Cataclysm: Korialstrasz discovers corrupted black dragon eggs hidden beneath Wyrmrest Temple. To prevent them from hatching and destroying the temple, he sacrifices himself by detonating the sanctums beneath it. His death devastates Alexstrasza and is one of the most tragic moments in dragon lore.
• Dragonflight: Alexstrasza continues to grieve his loss. His sacrifice is directly referenced as she works to restore the dragonflights. Players who deliver his Ruby Brooch here are meeting him before that sacrifice.

Ruby Dragonshrine’s Future

• Cataclysm (End Time dungeon): In a possible future timeline, the Ruby Dragonshrine is overrun by undead and serves as the arena for the Echo of Sylvanas encounter.
• Legion (Deaths of Chromie): The shrine comes under Scourge attack again in the Deaths of Chromie scenario, where Nishera the Garden Keeper (from the Emerald Dragonshrine quests) also reappears.
