“Behold, the machine that will save us from the Nerubian threat!
<Abner beams with pride as he presents the finished bot.>
Take this remote control with you, and go out to the southernmost of the Nerubian sinkholes in the Geyser Fields. Use the remote to activate the Shake-n-Quake 5000. It will do the rest on its own.
Don’t be surprised if the quake it creates attracts the attention of a Nerubian leader. In fact, it would be a great opportunity to finish off the Nerubian offensive.”
-Abner Fizzletorque
Abner Fizzletorque at Fizzcrank Airstrip wants you to use the Shake-n-Quake 5000 to collapse the Nerubian tunnels and defeat Lord Kryxix.

Quick Facts
Walkthrough
Step 1: Reach the South Sinkhole
Travel to the South Sinkhole at [70, 37] in the Geyser Fields. This is the same southernmost sinkhole you marked during Scouting the Sinkholes. It’s the star-shaped depression visible on your map.
Step 2: Clear the North Side
Before deploying the device, clear any mobs from the north side of the sinkhole. This is critical because Lord Kryxix will path from the south end to the north end before becoming attackable. If you cleared the south side instead (like many players do instinctively), you’ll end up fighting Kryxix with adds.
Step 3: Deploy the Shake-n-Quake
Stand near the sinkhole (south edge works fine) and use the Shake-n-Quake 5000 Control Unit from your inventory. The mammoth-hide-wrapped robot will approach from the north and begin its seismic attack on the tunnels.
Step 4: Defeat Lord Kryxix
Lord Kryxix spawns at the southwest edge of the sinkhole, initially untargetable. He walks along the west rim toward the north edge, taunting you as he approaches. Once he reaches the Shake-n-Quake at the north rim, the machine vanishes, and Kryxix becomes hostile.
Important: If you use the control unit too soon after another player, Lord Kryxix may not spawn. Simply wait a moment and use the item again.
Boss: Lord Kryxix
Lord Kryxix is a level 71 crypt lord commanding the nerubian forces tunneling beneath the Geyser Fields.
Combat: Straightforward melee fight with moderate damage. No complex mechanics. Very easy to solo at the appropriate level.
His Quotes:
You can solo this encounter easily as Holy Priests, Rogues, and other specs without difficulty. The adds you might accidentally pull are often harder than Kryxix himself.
Story Conclusion: The Nerubian Offensive Ends
This quest concludes Abner’s four-quest chain to halt the nerubian invasion of the Geyser Fields. Your efforts built the Shake-n-Quake from:
Abner’s completion: “<Abner listens eagerly as you report your success and the success of the Shake-n-Quake 5000.> Fizzcrank will be delighted to hear the news! And who knows, perhaps we’ll make a mechanic of you yet!”
With Lord Kryxix dead and the southern tunnels collapsed, the immediate nerubian threat to Fizzcrank Airstrip is neutralized.
Lore: The Crypt Lords
Lord Kryxix is a crypt lord, the mightiest form of undead nerubian. In life, these creatures were spiderlords, the noble ruling caste of Azjol-Nerub. When the Lich King conquered the nerubian kingdom during the War of the Spider, he raised the fallen spiderlords as crypt lords to serve as powerful commanders in the Scourge.
The most famous crypt lord is Anub’arak, the former king of Azjol-Nerub who escorted Arthas through the underground kingdom to Icecrown. Players eventually face Anub’arak twice: in the Azjol-Nerub dungeon and again in the Trial of the Crusader raid.
Horde Equivalent
Horde players receive a parallel quest called The Collapse from the taunka at Taunka’le Village. Instead of a gnomish seismic robot, they summon an earth elemental named Alluvius using the Horn of Elemental Fury.
Easter Egg: Shake ‘n Bake
The quest title is a play on “Shake ‘n Bake,” the Kraft seasoning product famous for its slogan “Shake ‘n Bake, and I helped!” (The slogan fits perfectly given your role in building the machine.)
Some connect it to the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), where “Shake and Bake” is a catchphrase used by the racing duo.

Vikstone's War Journal“Behold!” Abner presented the finished machine with the pride of a father at a naming ceremony. “The machine that will save us from the Nerubian threat!”

The Shake-n-Quake 5000 stood wrapped in mammoth hide, powered by hand-distilled oil, built on the skeleton of a repurposed bot. It looked absurd. But gnomish engineering had surprised me before.
Remote control in hand, I made my way to the southernmost sinkhole. The clicking from below had grown louder since my last visit. More of them. Always more.
I activated the device.
The ground shuddered, and then it screamed. The sinkhole collapsed inward, tunnels caving for a hundred yards in every direction. Dust and debris exploded upward, and from the chaos emerged something massive.
Lord Kryxix. A crypt lord, carapace gleaming with tunnel-slime, mandibles clicking fury. “Feebleminded tinkerer! Do you really think your pathetic creation can stop me?”
He charged. Fast for something that size, legs churning earth. I sidestepped the first lunge and brought my mace down on his forward leg. Chitin cracked as he shrieked, pivoted, swept a claw that caught my shield and drove me back three steps.
The second exchange went better. I’d seen how he moved now, where the joints bent, where the armor was thinnest. I closed inside his reach and hammered the thorax until something gave way with a wet crunch.
Kryxix collapsed into the rubble of his own tunnels.
The Shake-n-Quake 5000 still hummed beside the ruined sinkhole, mammoth hide dusty but intact. I owed a gnome an apology. Several, probably.
The tunnels were sealed, and deep in the caves of Magmoth a gnome named Bonker Togglevolt was still shouting Get Me Outa Here! at anyone mad enough to come down after him.
