“Our existence here depends entirely upon staying hidden. Should the shield fail, even for a moment, Malygos’ minions would have us. One of my responsibilities is to rejuvenate the warmages’ mana levels so their focus doesn’t falter. With our supply lines lost, I’ve been forced to improvise. I could use your help, Vikstone.
Very near the Nexus, Arcane Serpents feast on the abundant magical energies. Once defeated, they will yield a mana essence that I can make use of.”

Story Context
Librarian Serrah (quest text): “Our existence here depends entirely upon staying hidden. Should the shield fail, even for a moment, Malygos’ minions would have us. One of my responsibilities is to rejuvenate the warmages’ mana levels so their focus doesn’t falter. With our supply lines lost, I’ve been forced to improvise. I could use your help. Very near the Nexus, Arcane Serpents feast on the abundant magical energies. Once defeated, they will yield a mana essence that I can make use of.”
Completion: “Your service to Dalaran will not go unnoticed, <race>. I hope you find this payment sufficient.”
The Transitus Shield is hidden from Malygos by a magical barrier maintained by warmages working in constant shifts. If any of them lose focus, the illusion fails, and the entire outpost is exposed. With supply lines cut, the warmages can’t replenish their mana through normal means.
Serrah has found a workaround: the Arcane Serpents that feed on the Nexus’s magical energy have absorbed so much power that their remains can be harvested to restore mana. It’s improvised field logistics, but it keeps the warmages functioning and the shield intact.
Easter Egg: Lord of the Rings Reference
The quest name is a nod to Gandalf’s famous line from The Fellowship of the Ring: “Keep it secret, keep it safe!” (and later, “Is it secret? Is it safe?”).
Chain Complete: Librarian Serrah’s Questline
This completes Librarian Serrah’s questline. She handles the practical logistics of keeping the outpost running while the warmages focus on maintaining the shield.

Vikstone's War JournalThe librarian who’d rather be reading ancient texts had another request.

“Our existence here depends entirely upon staying hidden,” Serrah said. “Should the shield fail, even for a moment, Malygos’s minions would have us.”
She pointed toward the Nexus.
“One of my responsibilities is to rejuvenate the warmages’ mana levels so their focus doesn’t falter. With our supply lines lost, I’ve been forced to improvise.” She met my eyes. “Very near the Nexus, Arcane Serpents feast on the abundant magical energies. Once defeated, they will yield a mana essence that I can make use of.”
Closer to the Nexus than I wanted to be.
The serpents were beautiful, scales that shifted through colors that had no names, bodies that moved like water made solid, eyes that burned.
The first struck fast. I caught the lunge on my mace’s haft, felt the impact shudder through my arms, then brought the head down hard across the creature’s spine. It writhed, coiled, came again. When more slithered forward, I kept moving, let them tangle each other before punishing each opening.
The essences glowed faintly in my pack like bottled lightning.
Serrah accepted them with genuine relief. “Your service to Dalaran will not go unnoticed.”
Dalaran’s notice mattered less than the shield holding. One more day hidden. One more day alive.
The survey stations around the Nexus had gone unread for days, which leaves somebody Reading the Meters nobody wanted to look at.
