“Well, well, well. It’s good to see Arlos bring out the big guns. Don’t get me wrong – our lads are doing the best they can, but someone of your renown fighting alongside them could really turn the tides for us. I’m not sure how much longer we can hold out against these undead Nerubians. What do you say you get out there and kill me some creepers? Show these boys how it’s done.”

Vikstone's War JournalHammerhill’s call carried across the Sands of Nasam. He believed my arrival might

quell the fear of his men, that my presence could somehow tip the balance against the Crypt Crawlers swarming our lines. I found no comfort in such hope.
The first Nerubian reared up, hissing, fangs dripping with something foul. The stench of the Scourge clung to its carapace. I pivoted, letting its mandibles snap at air where I’d stood a moment before, then brought my mace down. The impact crushed its exoskeleton with a resounding crack and ichor spewed across the sand.
A second crawler scuttled forward, half-lunging, half-sliding across the dunes. I feinted to draw it out, then drove my mace upward. The spiked head ruptured its thorax, its dying screech barely registered. I was already turning.
A third creature scurried toward a wounded Valiance footman. I broke into a short sprint, sand shifting under my boots, and brought my weapon crashing down.
All around me, soldiers fought back with rifles and swords. My arms ached, yet it felt familiar, almost comfortable.
When the last crawler collapsed in a heap of shattered limbs, the sands lay strewn with cracked shells and dark puddles. The footmen erupted in cheers, relief flooding their weary faces.
“The only good creeper’s a dead creeper,” Hammerhill said when I returned.
The ground was clear. Then something shrieked overhead, and the next wave arrived as Death From Above.
